About Our School
Tuesdays (Chessmasters)
Tuesdays are intended for students that truly love the game of chess and want to seriously improve their game. Many of these players play outside of chess club either online, against friends or in weekend tournam
ents.
Any sixth through eighth grade student is welcome to join, but they must also be committed to attend Monday night chess club on a
regular basis.
Chessmasters is runs from 2:30 to 4:00 and is a combination of study, drill, and play. Students are instructed in higher
level tactics and are asked to practice them both in and outside of Chessmasters. There are frequently drills and games that students will participate in that help them sharpen their abilities to concentrate and visualize moves in their heads. The drills are delivered in a fun and challenging format that encourages students to strive for excellen
ce.
Students who participate in chessmasters use chess clocks and notation pads to help
simulate the atmosphere of chess
tournament. Students play under various
time controls and are required to notate
all games.
Players
will also have higher level players at their disposal to help them analyze their games.
Many of the chessmaster students typically serve as chessmentors later in the year.
