Computer Network Use
In order to use the internet and district information at John Glenn Middle School, students and their parents or guardians must sign and return this document.
Student Use 1. Use of information networks will be related to established curriculum. 2. Students are expected to use information network in a legal and ethical manner. Students shall notify a District staff member immediately if any individual is trying to contact them for illicit or suspicious activities. 3. Students participating in online courses will be allowed to use electronic communications tools only to fulfill the requirements of the coursework. 4. Only school name, grade or class will identify student materials published via publicly accessible information networks. 5. Student rights to free speech, as set forth in School Board Policy 512, apply also to communications on the internet. 6. Student users of information networks shall not: a) access, upload, download, or distribute obscene, abusive, or threatening material. b) violate any local, state, or federal statute in their use of information networks. c) vandalize, damage or disable the property of another person or organization in their use of information networks. d) access another person's material, information, or files without the implied or direct permission of that person. e) Abuse the privilege of information network access for unauthorized use and/or financial gain of the user. 7. Students are not allowed to make purchases online. If this happens, the parent/guardian will be responsible for payment. 8. Use of information networks is privilege, not a right, and shall be lost if this policy is violated.
